{"id":1035,"date":"2022-10-18T13:18:03","date_gmt":"2022-10-18T13:18:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dailykenya.co.ke\/?p=1035"},"modified":"2022-10-18T13:18:03","modified_gmt":"2022-10-18T13:18:03","slug":"nairobi-west-hospital-performs-first-bone-marrow-transplant-procedure-in-kenya","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailykenya.co.ke\/index.php\/2022\/10\/18\/nairobi-west-hospital-performs-first-bone-marrow-transplant-procedure-in-kenya\/","title":{"rendered":"Nairobi West Hospital performs first bone marrow transplant procedure in Kenya"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By Ronald Njoroge<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nairobi West Hospital has performed the first bone marrow transplant procedure in Kenya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Professor Andrew Kanyi Gachii, Chief Medical Director at the Nairobi West Hospital said patients no longer have to travel abroad for the advanced medical procedure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;An effective bone marrow transplant unit backed by world leading specialists could make Kenya a medical tourism destination,&#8221; Gachii said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gachii said that the hospital is committed to provide access to bone marrow transplants as a possible cure for patients with complex blood disorders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr Guarav Dixit the head of the Bone Marrow Transplant unit at the Nairobi West Hospital observed that a bone marrow transplant is the only hope of cure in treating blood cancers like acute myeloid leukaemia that would otherwise be difficult to treat with conventional chemotherapy alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dixit said that a bone marrow transplant is usually a safe procedure for patients with sickle cell disease.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Ronald Njoroge Nairobi West Hospital has performed the first bone marrow transplant procedure in Kenya.
