{"id":2542,"date":"2025-11-30T15:36:08","date_gmt":"2025-11-30T15:36:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailykenya.co.ke\/?p=2542"},"modified":"2025-11-30T15:36:08","modified_gmt":"2025-11-30T15:36:08","slug":"metro-alliance-unites-80-resident-groups-to-push-for-safer-greener-nairobi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailykenya.co.ke\/index.php\/2025\/11\/30\/metro-alliance-unites-80-resident-groups-to-push-for-safer-greener-nairobi\/","title":{"rendered":"Metro Alliance Unites 80 Resident Groups to Push for Safer, Greener Nairobi"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Nairobi, Kenya \u2014* A new citywide coalition bringing together nearly <em>80 residents\u2019 associations<\/em> has been launched in Nairobi, marking one of the strongest citizen-led efforts yet to push for orderly urban development, environmental protection and improved safety in the capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dubbed <em>Metro Alliance<\/em>, the movement aims to give Nairobians a more influential voice in shaping the city\u2019s future at a time when rapid growth, unplanned construction and rising insecurity remain major concerns for residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking during the launch, <em>Metro Alliance Chairman Ndirangu Maina<\/em> said the coalition will help consolidate scattered community efforts into a more coordinated and powerful platform.<br>\u201cNairobi\u2019s future belongs to its people; and today, we unite to shape it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Four-point agenda<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Alliance will work under four thematic pillars:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Urban Planning:<\/em> Advocating lawful and transparent development;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Environmental Stewardship:<\/em> Protecting rivers, wetlands, forests and green spaces;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Governance &amp; Cohesion:<\/em> Strengthening public participation and oversight;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Security:<\/em> Supporting community-based strategies for crime prevention.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Vice-Chairman <em>Geoff Luseno<\/em> said the Alliance will help restore order in a city where communities have long worked in isolation.<br>\u201cNow we stand together for lawful planning, environmental protection, and safer neighbourhoods,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Secretary <em>Samora Sikalieh<\/em> said the coalition seeks to influence policy and ensure that development projects prioritise people over profit.<br>\u201cOur goal is simple: a Nairobi that works for everyone,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Engaging government<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Alliance plans to partner with government agencies, policymakers and civic organisations to enhance oversight, protect public assets and push for infrastructure improvements.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nairobi, Kenya \u2014* A new citywide coalition bringing together nearly 80 residents\u2019 associations has been launched in Nairobi, marking one of the strongest citizen-led efforts yet to push for orderly urban development, environmental protection and improved safety in the capital.
