- Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano, EGH, has lauded Kenya’s young people for their growing commitment to environmental conservation, describing them as key drivers of the country’s sustainable future.
Speaking during the third annual First Lady’s Awards for Environmental Management and Awareness (FLAMA) ceremony in Nakuru County, CS Miano joined First Lady Mama Rachel Ruto and Governor Susan Kihika in celebrating outstanding youth initiatives promoting environmental stewardship.
The event attracted more than 2,400 creative entries from across the country — a turnout Miano said reflects a generation inspired to protect the planet.
“As a Ministry, we see conservation education as the very soul of our work, sparking a passion to protect our planet,” she noted.
The CS reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enforcing the ban on single-use plastics in all protected areas, describing the policy as non-negotiable in the effort to safeguard Kenya’s wildlife and ecosystems.
Miano praised H.E. Mama Rachel Ruto’s MaMa Doing Good initiative for inspiring youth-led environmental action, and thanked Principal Secretaries Silvia Museiya, Amb. Julius Bitok, and Festus Ng’eno for integrating conservation principles into the national education curriculum.
She also recognized teachers and environmental partners for “transforming knowledge into lasting community action,” and congratulated the young winners for championing a cleaner, greener Kenya.
“End pollution, conserve the environment — together we can build a sustainable future,” Miano said.
