AMENDMENT OF CDF TO NGCDF HAS IMPROVED ACCOUNTABILITY -SAYS MATAYOS MP

Matayos MP Hon.Geofrey Odanga has today explained that the ongoing meeting in Mombasa is geared towards inducting Members of Parliament to understand their mandates in parliament.

“ We are here in Mombasa to do induction on our mandates of Parliamentaries Commitees in Parliament,”Hon.Geofrey Odanga.

While addressing journalists in Mombasa hotel Hon Odanga has said that one of the things that has earned a lot of heat during their induction here in Mombasa is the CDF which is anchored in law and was discussed in Paliarment.

Because of this,the well thought Mp noted that Leaders and Citizens must understand that law making is a continuous process.

Section 8(1) of the NGCDF Act 2015 as amended in 2016 provides for funding of emergency projects. Emergency is defined as an urgent, unforseen needs.

Besides this, he noted that there are some weakeneses that must be noted to correct on the gaps that are parallysing the disbursement of Funds In the constituency.

“I have seen alot of weaknesses such as accountability and wastages of funds.”He said.

“There are times money has been given to universities when students have already cleared schools. That money automatically goes to waste.

Sometimes students have rapport with finance department and engage themselves in mischievous behaviors that also leads to corruption,he adds.
