Labour and Skills Development Principal Secretary Shadrack Mwadime has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to youth economic empowerment following the disbursement of KSh143.65 million under the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) programme to beneficiaries in Mombasa, Kwale, and Taita Taveta counties.
A total of 5,746 young people from the three coastal counties are set to benefit from the second phase of the start-up capital disbursement after successfully completing entrepreneurship training and business mentorship programmes.
The funding is expected to enable the beneficiaries to establish or expand micro and small enterprises, creating sustainable livelihoods, generating employment opportunities, and contributing to the economic transformation of the Coast region.
PS Mwadime noted that the NYOTA programme is a key Government initiative aimed at equipping young people with practical business skills, mentorship, and access to start-up capital, empowering them to become self-reliant entrepreneurs rather than job seekers.
The investment forms part of the Government’s broader agenda to tackle youth unemployment by promoting innovation, enterprise development, and financial inclusion. Through initiatives such as NYOTA, thousands of young Kenyans are being supported to transform their ideas into viable businesses capable of stimulating local economies and improving household incomes.
The KSh143.65 million disbursement to beneficiaries in Mombasa, Kwale, and Taita Taveta underscores the Government’s continued focus on unlocking the entrepreneurial potential of Kenya’s youth and accelerating inclusive economic growth across the country.
